Virginia Funeral Director’s Association Elects Michael E.M. Turch as President
~Association Nominates Funeral Director from Dale City~
RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Funeral Director’s Association (VFDA) welcomes the 2010-2011 Board of Directors. The association held its 122nd Convention at the Marriott Newport News at City Center in Newport News, Va., June 13-16, 2010. At the annual meeting, held on June 14, the association introduced the new board members.
The 2010-2011 president of the VFDA is Michael E.M. Turch, a funeral director at Mountcastle-Turch Funeral Home & Crematory. Turch said he always wanted to work in the funeral profession. Since elementary school, when asked what he wanted to be when he grew up his answer, “I want to work down the street at the funeral home”. When Turch was fifteen, he got up the nerve to walk down to the local funeral home and asked for a tour. Two hours later, Meg and Earle Mountcastle offered him a job mowing the lawn and washing cars during the summer. After opportunities to ride along on removals and assist with services, Turch knew this was the business for him. After graduating from high school, Turch worked part-time at Mountcastle Funeral Home while enrolled in John Tyler Community College’s Funeral Service Program. He graduated in 1993, and continued his education in the evenings at Mary Washington College while he worked full-time at the funeral home. Turch stated Meg and Earle Mountcastle have left a positive footprint in his life. They have taught me just about everything I know about how to balance work, personal life and religion, Turch said. He closed by saying, they both have truly inspired me to set goals which seemed a little far fetched at first, but then have supported me as those goals became a reality.
