It is with sincere regret that we must advise you of the death of

          Catherine O’Neil Bliley

BLILEY, Catherine O'Neil, 98, passed away peacefully at her home, Maple Springs on Sunday, December 9, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Wilfred Bliley Jr.; and her son, Joseph Wilfred Bliley III. Kitty is survived by her six children, Catherine Bliley Wright and her husband, Bruce Roger Wright, Daniel John Bliley and his wife, Frances McCracken Bliley, Nicholas Martin Bliley and his wife, Patricia Saunders Bliley, Margaret Bliley Wilkins and her husband, Robert Anthony Wilkins, Norbert Michael Bliley and his wife, Jeanie Berkeley Bliley, and The Rev. Cecilia Bliley Duke and her husband, David Hughes Duke; her daughter-in-law, Mary Thomas Bliley; her 12 grandchildren, Brian Patrick Bowe, Daniel Patrick Bliley, Jennifer Shea Bowe Crutchfield, Christopher Preston Bliley, Kathleen Bliley Hernandez, Joseph W.           Mary Elizabeth Croy Lilly

Mary Elizabeth Croy Lilly, 93, of Christiansburg died Saturday, November 24, 2007 at her home.  She was born August 10, 1914 in Pulaski County, VA to the late Brady Clifton and Lonnie Jordan Stafford Croy.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Oakley A. Lilly; her son, Larry Deaton Lilly; her daughter, Janet L. Knowles; her sisters,  Margie McCoy, Lyda McCoy; her brothers, Ralph, Jennings, Garvin, Donald, Junior, J.D., Randolph (infant).   While living in McCoy she attended Centennial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and after moving to Christiansburg she attended Christiansburg Pentecostal Holiness Church.  She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, quilting, and needle work.  Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, June L. and W.S. “Buddy” McCoy, of McCoy; son and daughter-in-law, John and Anita Lilly, of Christiansburg; son-in-law, Sam Knowles, of Christiansburg; grandchildren and spouses, Lee and Carrie McCoy, Leon and Betsy McCoy, Vanessa and Kenneth McCoy, Rebecca and Mark Matusevich, Steve and Amy Knowles, Susan and Dave Potts, Michelle and Rob Muttart; fourteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, sister, Pauline C. McCoy, of McCoy, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Warren and Juanita Lilly of Pearisburg; sisters-in-law, Lucille Lilly, of Salem, Elva Croy, of Burleson, TX, Jewell Croy, of McCoy, several neices and nephews, and many friends.  The family would like to express their appreciation to caregivers, Carol Linkous, Nancy Puckett, Cinda McCoy, Nancy Scott, Sylvia Goff and Connie Shelton.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 27,  2007 at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Jim Flaugher, Rev. Holly Phillips and Rev. Gary McCoy officiating.  Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, P.O. It is with sincere regret that we must advise you of the death of

Sadie Mustard Vest

Sadie Mustard Vest, 99, of the White Gate community, Pearisburg went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 from the Highland Ridge Rehab Center, Dublin.

She was born at Berton, Va. on September 10, 1908 the daughter of the late Joshua W. and Elizabeth Rebecca Bish Mustard. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sheffey Vest, a granddaughter, Brenda V. Horn, a great-grandson, Bradley Perdue; four brothers, Leonard, James, Woodrow, Clinton Mustard: two sisters, Mamie Stafford and Elsie Wiley, and was the last surviving member of her family. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Women for many years.

She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Nelson and Pauline Vest, Louis and Deborah Vest, Carl Vest and Jimmie Vest of White Gate; two daughters and sons-in-law, Maydell and Wayne McPeak, White Gate; Ann and Roger Sutphin, Christiansburg; one sister-in-law, Rebecca Vest, Bedford; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and seven stepgreatgrandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate with the Rev. Danny Shortridge, the Rev. Kim Goddard and Rev. Sharon W. Wright officiating. Burial in the Stinson Cemetery, White Gate. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday after 1 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m.

The family wishes to thank the staff, doctors, nurses and Mountain Valley Hospice for the excellent care of their mother.

Frances Elizabeth Arrington

Frances Elizabeth Arrington died Wednesday, November 14, 2007.  She was the widow of W. Earl Arrington a former General Manager of Oakey’s Funeral Service in Roanoke, Virginia.  She was proceeded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth A. Robins.  Frances was a member of Grandin Court Baptist Church in Roanoke.  Surviving are a daughter and son in law; Kathryn A. & David Zurek of Virginia Beach.  2 granddaughters and 1 grandson.  Graveside services will be held on Greenwood Cemetery in Bedford, Virginia at 12 noon on Saturday, November 17, 2007.  There will be no visitation.  Arrangements are by Oakey’s Roanoke Chapel 540-982-2100.

          Eva Lorene Perdue McCoy

McCOY, EVA LORENE PERDUE, age 90, of McCoy died, Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at New River Valley Medical Center.  She was born in Luster’s Gate, VA on August 11, 1917 to the late James Thomas and Lucy Adeline Miller Perdue and was also preceded in death by her husband, Ira Harold McCoy and a daughter, Verna Mae Hall, five brothers, Marshall Vernon Perdue, Walter Pack Perdue, Carl Wesley Perdue, Houston Thomas “Shorty” Perdue, Charles James “Grant” Perdue; two sisters, Essie Mae Perdue, died as an infant and Irene Perdue Oliver.  She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Ira O. “Jack” and Barbara “Bob” Perdue of McCoy, Kenneth H. and Vanessa McCoy of McCoy; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ola Howery Perdue of Blacksburg, Rosemary McCoy of Dublin; Charlie Helvey of McCoy, Larry K. and Yvonne McCoy of McCoy, Irene McCoy of McCoy and John and Frances McCoy of McCoy; two granddaughters, Crystal Marie Perdue of Pilot, Carolyn and Donald Fleet of Blacksburg; great-grandchildren, Monica Dae Perdue of Blacksburg, Jason Harold Perdue of Pilot; numerous neices and nephews. She is the Mother of Kenneth H. McCoy, Owner and Manager of McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 9, 2007 at 3:00 pm in the Community Christian Church in McCoy, with Mr. James O. Flaughter and Mr. Bobby E. Fuller officiating.  Interment will follow in the McCoy Family Cemetery, McCoy.  Friends may call any time after 12:00 noon on Thursday and the family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm Thursday evening at the MCCoy Funeral Home, 150 County Club Drive, Blacksburg.

It is with sincere regret that we must advise you of the death of

                Roy Allen Jolly

Roy Allen Jolly, 72, died on Sunday, October 28, 2007, after an extended illness.  Mr. Jolly is the father-in-law of Jerry Small with Bill Black Cadillac in Greensboro, NC.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, November 2, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church with Reverend Timothy Jay Patterson officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. 

Allen was born November 21, 1934, in Whiteville, North Carolina.  He was the son of the late Reverend Seymour Woodrow Jolly and Ezelah Wade Jolly.  He was a graduate of Whiteville High School, attended Mars Hill College and was selected for the U.S. Air Force Aviation Cadet Program in 1955.  He warned the rank of Captain and was a Navigator on active and reserve duty until 1972.  While in the Air Force, he studied at Baylor University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.  He was a Hankamera Scholar and a member and officer of Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity.  He continued his education at The Wharton School – University of Pennsylvania, and earned a MBA in 1963.  He spent over 35 years in the banking industry.  He started his career at First Union National Bank in 1963, and worked in Charlotte, Fayetteville, Southern Pines, and Greensboro. In 1975, he joined Community Bank in Greensboro and held several senior executive positions with Community Bank, Southern National Bank and BB&T, before retiring from BB&T in 1996.  He and Southern National Bank were awarded the Long Leaf Pine award by Governor Jim Martin in 1992 for service on the North Carolina Business Committee for Education.  The Committee was instrumental in focusing statewide business and community attention on the needs of our schools.  After retirement, he volunteered his time to the Episcopal Housing Ministry.  He served on the boards of Southern National Bank, BB&T, The United Way, The Gate City Kiwanis Club, the North Carolina Forestry Association, The Community Theater of Greensboro, and Alcohol and Drug Services of Guilford County (ADS).  As President of the Board of ADS, he led the merger of the three existing county agencies into what is now known as Alcohol Drug Services of Guilford County.  He was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, The 100 Club and The Greensboro Jaycees Oldtimers.

He enjoyed fishing, water skiing and boating at Ocean Isle Beach, where the family enjoyed many vacations.  He was a caring and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Judy, of 30 years; son, Michael, daughter, Lisa Jolly Small and husband, Jerry of Greensboro; stepdaughters Cecilia Wright Symonds and husband Lawrence, Melissa Wright Niegro and husband, Wesley of Greensboro, and AnnMarvin Wright Griffiths and husband, Scott of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Lauren and John Small of Greensboro, Eloise and EmmaScott Griffiths of Charlotte.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 1, at Forbis & Dick, North Elm Chapel and 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 2, in the Roe Library in the Parish House of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. 

The family would like to thank Mike Baker of MBI Sports and Fitness; The caring staff at Bayada Nurses for the extraordinary care the provided during his illness – especially, Mary Bolder, Annette Cathey, Lisa Dean, Sunday Ibokwe, Miranda Johnson, Lisa Lawson, and Modinet Shittu.  In addition, the family would like to thank the staff of Blumenthal Jewish Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for providing exemplary care in the last months of his life.

          Jim Colvin

COLVIN, JAMES WILLIAM, 63, of Louisville, passed away Monday, October 22, 2007 at Baptist Hospital Northeast, LaGrange. He was born on December 21, 1943 to the late Arvin F. Colvin and Joyce L. Wolfe Colvin in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was a sales representative for over 42 years for the old National Casket Company, Southern Casket and Coffin Company, Batesville Casket Company and York Casket Company. He was also a member of Kentucky Funeral Supply and salesman club. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Betty Meadows Colvin; son, Shawn McBeath and his wife Keli; daughter, Shannon McBeath of Orlando, FL; his brother, Dan Colvin and his wife Cheryl; his sister, Vicki Stites and two grandchildren, Bailee and Riley McBeath. His funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Ratterman's, 3711 Lexington Road, with burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and after 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday. Memorial gifts in memory of Jim may be made to Cancer research or Hospice and Palliative Care of Louisville.

               Ruth Lavender

Ruth Lavender went to be with her heavenly father on September 6, 2007 in her home. A native of Crewe, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Harlen B. Norton and the widow of Willie Bayes Lavender. She retired from Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital after 31 years as Coordinator of the Neurology Sleep Study and Respiratory. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Norfolk. 

Ruth is survived by her mother Irene A. Norton of Pace, FL, a daughter, Tricia L. Evans and her husband Dan of Va. Beach, and four sons, Robert E. Lavender of Southampton, VA, Ricky A. Lavender and wife Molly of Moyock, NC, George Patrick Lavender and wife Mary of Forest, VA, an employee of Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford and Huddleston and Michael Hamilton Lavender of Norfolk. She is also survived by her sister Diane Maloney of Miami, FL a brother, George Norton and wife Ellen of Pace, FL, ten grandchildren, Robbie, Melissa, Ryan, Jacob, Bryant, Chelsea, Wyatt, Trenton, Autumn and Hunter, three great-grandchildren, a special friend, Velma Wilson and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a special friend Charlotte Finn.

A Funeral service will be conducted Monday at 7 PM at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Kempsville Chapel with Chaplain George Rodriquez officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and will have a reception following the service.

It is with sincere regret that we must advise you of the death of

Ben F. Davidson

Ben F. Davidson, 77, of Jonesville, Virginia, long time Funeral Director and former Lee County Circuit Court Clerk, died Saturday, August 25, 2007 at Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Virginia.

 

Ben was the former owner of the Davidson Funeral Homes in Jonesville and Rose Hill, Virginia and was past president of the Virginia Funeral Directors Association and also the Virginia State Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers.  He was also appointed by former Governor Mills Godwin to serve on the State Health Regulatory Board.  A graduate of Jonesville High School, he attended Georgetown College and was a graduate of The Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.

 

Ben was a member of the Jonesville First United Methodist Church where he had served as Chairman of the Administrative Board, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher and Lay Speaker.  Ben enjoyed serving the people of Lee County and regretted having to retire from the position of Circuit Court Clerk because of his health.

 

He had been involved in many civic and service organizations including the Jonesville Lions Club, American Legion, Master of Masonic Lodge #47 AF&AM. Ben served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was a charter member and past president of the Cedar Hill Country Club. He was an avid supporter and patron of the Lee County School System.  Ben had also served on the Board of Directors for the former Lee County Community Hospital for many years.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin F., Sr. and Dorothy Huber Davidson.

 

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Edens Davidson; a son, Gary B. Davidson and wife, Peggy of Naples, FL; three daughters, Sandra D. Allgood and husband, Reggie; Benita D. Rutherford and husband, Eddie of Kingsport, TN; Melissa A. Davidson and Gloria J. Basse of Brewster, NY; two grandchildren, Shelley Winkle and husband, Nick of Kingsport, TN; Chad Rutherford and wife, Jen of Kingsport, TN; three great-grandchildren, Hannah and Alexa Winkle and Savannah Rutherford of Kingsport, TN; brothers, William R. Davidson and wife, Pattie of Lynchburg, VA and Dr. Richard A. Davidson and wife, Phyllis of  Wise, VA.

 

The body will lie in state at the Jonesville First United Methodist Church from 12:00 to 4:00 PM on Wednesday, August 29th.  Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM with the Reverend Layne Pennington officiating.

 

Burial will follow in the Jonesville Town Cemetery.  Nephews will serve as pallbearers.  Following the burial service, the family will receive friends and host a reception in Celebration of Ben’s Life at the family home on Main Street in Jonesville.

It is with sincere regret that we must advise you of the death of

Robert Lewis Cash, Sr.

Robert Lewis Cash, Sr., age 73, of Roanoke, formerly of Buchanan passed away Thursday, August 16, 2007.  He was the son of Frank L. Cash Sr. and Mary G. Cash and was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Rita D. Cash; as well as four brothers, Aubrey, Richard, Frank and Clarence Cash.

Bob was a longtime member of High Bridge Presbyterian Church and after moving to Roanoke became a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.  He was employed by several companies including James Lee Carpets and Groggins Plastics.  He owned and operated a trash collection business in Buchanan and Glasgow.  After Bob sold the business, he drove for Lawrence Transportation until he retired. 

A wonderful husband, Daddy and Paw Paw, he is survived by his wife of 49 years, Norma Watts Cash, son, R.L. Cash, Jr. and fiancée, Belinda, daughters and sons-in-law, Lorraine and Steve Cunningham and Jennifer and Aaron Williams; special grandchildren, Heather Cash and fiancé, Gunnar, Callie Cash, Miranda Williams, and Wyatt Williams; great grandson, Caleb Elijah Cash.  He is also survived by sisters, Margaret Goff, Peggy Walters, Betty Treadway, Dessie Smith and husband, Tommy; brother William Cash and wife; Betty; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Cash and June Cash; brothers-in-law, Randolph Watts and wife, Bettye, and L.N. Watts and wife, Sue; sister-in-law, Joann Rhoades; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

It is with sincere regret that we must advise you of the death of

Nancy Rae Thacker Little 

Nancy Rae Thacker Little, 81, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at Chesapeake General Hospital.  She was a native and lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County. 

 

Nancy Rae was the owner of Little's Supermarket which closed on June 30, 2007 after some 60 years in business.  She was an active member of Smithfield Baptist Church where she was the chairman of the WMU, a member of the adult choir, a deacon and a trustee, a member of the B.L. Wells class, and a past Sunday School teacher. 

 

She was also a member of the Ladies' Auxilary of the Smithfield Fire Dept., where she was the past treasurer.  Nancy Rae was also a member of the Smithfield Woman's Club and the Isle of Wight Historical Society. 

 

Preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Little, Jr., two grandsons, Robert J. Little, IV and John Robbins Little, and a brother, Leslie Wade Thacker.  Left to cherish her memory are her son, Robert  J. Little, III, and wife, Anne, her daughter, Nancy Lynn Delk and husband, Marty; six grandchildren, Tiffany Moore and husband, Kevin, Judson Little, Brandi Little, Abbey Delk, and fiancé, Todd Crompton, Kayla Williams, and husband, Griffin, and Caitlin Delk; a great grandson, Phillip, and soon to be Baby Moore. 

Family and friends will gather for visitation 6-8 PM Friday at Smithfield Baptist Church. A service celebrating Nancy Rae's life will be conducted 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 18, in the church.    Rev. Dr. Donald R. Rhoton and Rev. Dr. R. Furman Kenney will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Memorial Park.  Following the graveside service, a reception will be prepared for family and friends in the church Family Life Center. 

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Smithfield Baptist Church, Sanctuary Renovation Fund, 100 Wainwright Drive, Smithfield, 23430, or to Isle of Wight Academy Building Fund, PO Box 105, Isle of Wight, VA, 23397.

Louise Slusher Horne 

Horne, Louise Slusher, age 83, of Christiansburg, died Friday night, August 10, 2007. She was the widow of C. Hubert Horne, a 57 year Virginia Licensed Funeral Director and embalmer, the mother of Richard H. "Dick" Horne, licensed funeral director, President and Chairman of the Board of Horne Funeral Service and Grandmother of, Brian R.H. Horne, VA funeral service licensee and manager of the firm in Christiansburg.

 

She has served as Secretary and Treasurer of the funeral home board of directors from 1973-2000 and was a retired public school teacher. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Pat Horne of Christiansburg; a granddaughter, Dr. Heather Leveta Horne and her husband, Eric Brown, of Orlando, FL; her grandson and his wife, Brian and Amy Horne, Christiansburg; a sister, Donna S. Baber, Bedford, VA and four great grandchildren. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 15th, from the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Dr. Donald Maken, with interment to follow in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 14th, at the Horne Funeral Home. An Eastern Star Memorial Service will follow at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. James (Jim) Luther Paitsel, Jr. 

James L. Paitsel, Jr., 46 of New Castle went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 30, 2007. He is survived by his loving wife Trish; father James L. Paitsel, Sr.; mother Arlene S. Paitsel; sister and brother-in-law Julie and Mike Huffman; children Jamie Paitsel and fiancee Heather, Ashley Harmon and husband Patrick, and Andrew Paitsel; children Shawna, Trey and Taylor Huffman; nephew Justin Huffman and fiancée Caitlin Tolbert; niece Crystal Hickson and husband Jeff; one

great-nephew Austin Hickson; one great-niece Sarah Hickson; mother and father-in-law Debbie and Mike Harris; 2nd mother Frances Oliver; 2 special furry companions Leo and Polly; and many special friends.

 

Graveside Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 3, 2007 at Huffman Memorial Park with the Rev. Larry Jent and Lowell Stovall officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 PM at
